The Heavy Heavy create the kind of unfettered rock-and-roll that warps time and place, immediately pulling the audience into a euphoric fugue state with its own sun-soaked atmosphere. Led by lifelong musicians Will Turner and Georgie Fuller, the Brighton, UK-based band began with a shared ambition of “making records that sound like our favorite records ever,” and soon arrived at a reverb-drenched collision of psychedelia and blues, acid rock and sunshine pop. As revealed on their gloriously hazy debut EP Life and Life Only, The Heavy Heavy breathe an incandescent new energy into sounds from decades ago, transcending eras with a hypnotic ease.
In recent years Thundercat, aka Stephen Bruner, has completed his transition from virtuoso bassist to bonafide star and cemented his reputation as a wholly unique voice, transcending genre. He has become a cornerstone of the Brainfeeder label having released The Golden Age of Apocalypse (2011), (2013), Drunk (2017), and his 2020 album It Is What It Is won Best Progressive R&B Album at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Childish Gambino, Lil B, Kamasi Washington, Steve Lacy, Steve Arrington, BADBADNOTGOOD, Louis Cole, Pedro Martins and Zack Fox. The record was produced by Thundercat and his longtime partner Flying Lotus who was GRAMMY-nominated in "Producer of the Year, Non-Classical" for his work on the album.

Approaching thirty years since its humble Boston beginnings, the relentlessly soulful funk outfit has essentially lived on the road, embodying, night after night, the sly wink of its moniker: Let us play! Unify is the eighth studio album from Lettuce, it's also a third consecutive record made at Denver's Colorado Sound Studios, completing a loose trilogy starting with 2019's Grammy-nominated Elevate, and continuing with 2020's Resonate. "Dealing with the pandemic, being in separate places, trying to survive without our best friends, without touring, not to mention the political divide in this country," says Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch. "We really needed to unify."
Say She She, the soulful female-led trio, stand rock solid on discodelic duty with their boundary breaking sophomore album Silver. “Tell them what you want - the time will soon be gone...” Like the lyrics from their latest single "C’est si Bon" (it's so good!) that features on the album, the honeyed harmonising trio - consisting of the three strong voices of Piya Malik (El Michels Affair staple feature, and former backing singer for Chicano Batman), Sabrina Mileo Cunningham and Nya Gazelle Brown who front the band - stay true to their word. These women have something to say and they are not afraid to play with the medium. Leaning into their “boundary busting discodelic soul” (The Guardian), their flawless harmonies twist and writhe, capturing listeners hearts with buttery vocals, fat funky basslines, catchy hooks and up-tempo grooves.

DEAF MOUNTAINEERS, EDUCATORS
Scott Lehmann and Shayna Unger were both born into multigenerational deaf families and raised in the deaf community. Growing up, there wasn’t much deaf representation in the outdoors, and they faced limited access to outdoor education due to communication barriers. It wasn’t until after college that they taught themselves to climb by studying YouTube videos and communicating with other mountaineers using paper and pen. Over the last ten years, they have climbed some of the world’s highest mountains, including Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, Denali, Mont Blanc, and the Matterhorn. Most recently, Shayna became the first deaf woman and Scott the first deaf American to reach the summits of Mount Everest and Lhotse, which they did back to back in 26 hours. They launched the Seeing Beyond: Seven Summits project with the aim of becoming the first deaf individuals to climb the Seven Summits, improving accessibility to information and education, and inspiring their community to explore outdoors.

LOS MOCOCHETES
By combining elements of cumbia, reggae, hip-hop, rock, funk, and more, Denver-based Los Mocochetes composes music to unite the gente and creates revolutionary music you can dance to. With deep roots from the Mora Valley in northern Nuevo Mexico and to the south from Juarez, MX, the group coined the word Mocochete to mean “mocosos con machetes.” In life, most mocosos (snot-nosed “brats”) develop physically to the point where they are strong enough to wield a tool or weapon, such as a machete. How you use that tool has lasting consequences and defines the mark you leave on the world with great potential for both creation and destruction. Los Mocochetes have devoted their lives to using their machetes for good. Every performance draws on the elements, the directions, the ancestors and the great mystery. Each song is a prayer meant to move your feet, stir your spirit, and to remind you of the incredible power you have to heal yourself and the seven generations forward and back.

Sustainability
ADA
At The Outside Festival, we believe sustainability is more than just a buzzword. From collecting data to measure and understand our impact, eliminating all single-use plastics onsite, offsetting our entire footprint, and creating climate-conscious touchpoints throughout the event, we’re taking concrete steps to minimize our environmental impact. We believe in honesty and accountability. Post-festival, we’ll share a detailed impact report, showing how our collective action has made a difference and what we’ve learned along the way. Together, we look forward to making positive change. Our intention is for the environment to be interwoven into the festival's DNA—not an “after-the-fact” consideration or marketing tool but a core pillar of the festival, apparent to everyone who attends. But we can’t do it alone. Part of the cost of every festival pass will directly support these goals and initiatives, creating an experience that celebrates outdoor culture and champions our planet. So thank you! Here are the three things you can do as a friend of the festival (and planet) to help support our programs this year BYOB (empty, of course) and take advantage of the free water onsite Take the transportation survey for a chance to win a $500 merch pack Carpool, walk, or bike to the festival We’re looking forward to seeing you onsite… with your reusable bottle in hand!

Outside's 2023 Impact Report
We are committed to eliminating the use of single-use plastic at our festival: Through a partnership with Ball, every beverage you purchase will be served in an infinitely recyclable aluminum cup, which we will actively collect and recycle during the festival. We will require all vendors to order from a pre-approved list of CMA-certified compostable materials and ensure they are properly composed after the event
For general sustainability questions, please contact: Kristin HostetterHead of Sustainability khostetter@outsideinc.com
We’re committed to tracking and reducing our carbon footprint where possible and supporting the most credible offsets to neutralize unavoidable emissions: We will track and measure the carbon emissions produced by our event to identify any areas for reduction But we don’t just buy any old carbon credits…To eliminate emissions equal to the Outside Festival, we work with Cooler to purchase and retire carbon permits from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a government consortium that regulates pollution in the Northeast. For every permit we purchase at RGGI’s quarterly auctions, we reduce the permits available to polluters. This immediately prevents pollution that would happen otherwise and invests in greening the electricity grid and mass transit systems, making energy cleaner for everybody.
We are a #BYOBottle festival committed to reducing plastic waste: Bring your own bottle or hydration bladder (just make sure it’s empty upon arrival). We’ll have cool water refill stations throughout our event, so you’ll never go thirsty. Please also consider bringing your own tote bag and zero-waste meal kit to further reduce your impact and waste. No plastic bottles, no straws, no exceptions.
Audience transportation makes up an overwhelming majority of an event's carbon footprint - up to 90% in some cases! We created this survey for our fans to take ↗ so that we can understand the biggest contributor to our carbon footprint. Fans who take the survey will receive a personal report that shows them their impacts and be entered into a drawing to win an amazing $500 prize package that includes some sustainable swag like a UCO mess kit, a Stasher silicone bag, a Hydro Flask water bottle, a BruTrek French press coffee maker, and lots more!

We will work with food vendors who prioritize sustainability: We prioritize plant-based, locally sourced delectables and serve them on plastic-free, compostable servingware, which we will collect and deliver to local compost facilities. Our waste management plan will ensure that all recyclable, compostable materials are measured and captured and that we’re sending the bare minimum to the landfill. After the event, we will understand the breakdown of the meals served onsite and will improve our food programming.
Our Green Team members trained by our partner, Leave No Trace, will be posted at waste stations throughout the grounds to guide fans on the proper disposal of cups, compostable servingware, unwanted food, recyclables, and trash. Stop by and engage with them about all things sustainability! Our green team works to reduce the contamination of waste streams, ensuring that only each type of waste is in the right bin.
Gear Repair
Good outdoor gear is meant to last. Little tears mean you’re doing it right! Stop by the NOSO booth and get a free demo on how to perfectly patch your well-loved gear.
Empty out those closets, garages, and trunks! We’re partnering with Out & Back Outdoor to create an amazing gear swap at the festival. Out&Back is a Denver-based marketplace that simplifies selling your used outdoor gear with instant cash offers. And that's not all—shop & enjoy incredible discounts on both new and gently used gear! Click here to find out what’s swappable and what’s not, and pre-register your stuff for a seamless and quick transaction on Festival day.
All of our awesome festival merch has been vetted with sustainability in mind, prioritizing post-consumer recycled materials and minimal packaging.
Our programming will include exciting sustainability films, topics, speakers, and activities aimed at inspiring and creating a collective climate impact.
We work closely with each of our vendors to ensure they are committed to our overall environmental goals through our vendor aGREENments: These documents clearly outline Outside Festivals’ environmental policy and give each vendor the tips and tricks that allow them to succeed onsite. Each vendor also helps us collect the raw data that will allow us to understand our overall carbon footprint. We can’t do sustainability right without collaboration with all our festival stakeholders and vendors.
How you travel to our festival matters! Please consider riding your bike (we’ll have plenty of bike parking) or taking public transportation to save money and lessen your festival footprint. Civic Center Park is easily accessible via RTD light rail and bus lines. Click here to plan your route.
Sound Future is proud to serve the Outside Festival as its Sustainability Exploration Partner, identifying next-generation sustainability innovations for the inaugural festival and beyond. As a nonprofit working to build a world where gathering does good, Sound Future uses live events as a testbed for climate solutions and supports planetary restoration alongside artists, entertainers, and athletes.
We are working with Green Disco to develop our sustainability strategy and track our impacts to make improvements for future years. They will work closely with our team to collect data across our entire venue and create a comprehensive overview of our impacts, from carbon emissions to our waste footprint. They will collect data across our festival to help us understand the carbon emissions from onsite production, all purchased goods, and our supply chain spanning audience travel.

By spreading the importance of inclusivity, the outdoor industry is positioned to lead in a moment where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is being defunded and deprioritized. Forever chemicals like PFAS are dominating the “E” and “G” in ESG (environmental, social, and governance). This panel will discuss why the “Social” component of ESG is so powerful and how promoting equitable outdoor access can benefit communities, governments, and the industry at large.
