Kimmy Fasani is a professional snowboarder, entrepreneur, and advocate. Born and raised in Truckee, California, Fasani made history as the first woman to land a double backflip in the terrain park, earned accolades like Transworld SNOWboarding’s Rider of the Year, and advocated for changes in sponsor contracts to include maternity clauses. After overcoming a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer, she launched the Benchetler Fasani Foundation with her husband, Chris Benchetler. This nonprofit is aimed at providing people who have experienced hardship with access to the healing power of nature. Fasani’s latest project is the highly anticipated film Butterfly in a Blizzard, released in spring 2025. Through raw and intimate footage captured over five years, the film explores themes of matrescence—a newly coined term that encompasses the transition into motherhood—as well as Fasani’s struggles with childhood trauma, relationship challenges, and her cancer diagnosis.
